Cacophonous Sarcophagus present a triple bill belter, sure to be one of the most memorable shows of the year!
Selvhenter
(Copenhagen, Denmark)
[Eget Værelse]
Proud to finally bring Selvhenter to Bristol. One of the most exciting bands on the planet right now, they've been receiving rave reviews for their live performances at Supersonic, Rokslide, Incubate etc. They recently release a split 7” with The Ex and have been awarded the highest of recommendations from the likes of The Wire mag, Mats Gustafsson, Otomo Yoshihide, GNOD, Mugstar & Tomaga.
“Trombone, saxophone, violin, pedals, amps & two drummers. Exploring the field between repetitive drone-like compositions, strong beats and free improvisation. Sounds & noise – sometimes acoustic sometimes amplified.”
"The Danish all-women Selvhenter quintet may be the most exciting outfit to emerge from Scandinavia in recent years. Selvhenter honed a sound all its own - an uncompromising, boundless energetic one that blends the aesthetics of experimental rock, the sophistication of improvised free jazz and the aggressiveness of punk, noise and metal, all performed with passion and humor, sometimes even as music fit for dancing. Beautiful, wild and poetic." - ALLABOUTJAZZ
“Selvhenter corral amplified horns, violin and percussion into a finely honed mass of rhythm and noise. The sound they make is genuinely exciting and new, as mutant strains of free jazz and doom intersect with minimalism and post-punk” - List.co.uk

Tomaga
(London)
[Hands in the Dark, Negative Days, Blank Editions]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INflTtHLa3I
My favourite band in this fair land.
If you saw them supporting ZU at the Exchange (or perhaps playing directly before Selvhenter at Supersonic last year) then...you know; nothing more needs to be said. For those not yet clued up, Tomaga are something very special indeed.
Percussionist Valentina Magaletti is perhaps the finest I know. She's been playing live and racking up recording credits for the likes of Raime, Shit & Shine, Hey Colossus, Gum Takes Tooth and The Oscillation (w/Tom Relleen) for years, but now in Tomaga, she's come into her own. With Tom (bass loops/synths/drones), they've fused together over a shared love of This Heat and Italian library/soundtrack composers, to create a wholly unprecedented sound.
“Tomaga channels percussive energy via analogue synthesizers, effects and contact microphones to create a collision of vibrating rhythms and tones. TOMAGA actively seeks to transport the musicians and audience to zones outside of conventional musical experience via extended duration improvisations using instruments that are pushed beyond their normal limits. TOMAGA is the manifestation of two musician's boredom at playing within conventional musical modes.”
“Tomaga travel through industrial, jazz, psychedelia and minimalism, on it’s way to somewhere wholly other. Devoted to musical exploration, this London based duo obsessively deconstruct familiar tropes, looking for the tension that lies between improvisation and form!”

The Evil Usses
(Bristol)
[Stolen Body Records]
The band have self described themselves as a “Bristol based 4 piece who play rocky not jazz, jazzy notrock, post-op pop, nothmuch and a lot else”. They have been praised for their amazingly wild and energetic live shows and they have recently recorded their eponymous debut album with renowned Bristol musician Jim Barr (Portishead, Get The Blessing) who has also co-produced the record.
